The trailer pictured above is a Shadow
Stable Mate 6135SC two horse stock combo. The 6135SC designation
indicates 6' body width, 13.5' body length
Stock
Combo. There's
a 3 horse 617SC a little farther down the page (6' body width, 17' body
length). Standard height on all Stable Mate slants is 7 feet.
Stable Mates are well made and nicely equipped, but they're not quite as
deluxe as Shadow's 700 Series models and less deluxe means lower cost.
As on the more expensive models, a Stable Mate features an aluminum frame
and aluminum skin, torsion axles and bright LED tail & marker lights.
The 6135SC shown above has the optional spare tire, escape door and
stripe package. (Please note that we’re showing a 6135 two horse
model and a 617 three horse. Since these pictures were taken,
these models have been shortened slightly and are now the 613 and 616,
respectively. Feature content is as described here.)

Step inside a Shadow, whether Stable Mate or 700 Series, and
you’ll likely note it’s a bright and inviting place to be.
The interior walls are white. There are plenty of windows
and vents. The workmanship is very good and there’s an
overall tidiness that’s very appealing.
See those black panels on the lower walls? They’re Rumber®
kick panels and they’re standard in Stable Mate horse areas.
A Rumber product specialist once told us that the product was
developed to line trenches for hand grenade training.
If Rumber can hold up to grenades, it should be able to stand up
to a kick! Not only is Rumber tough, it only weighs about 20
lbs. per 4x8 sheet; it protects your horses, protects your walls
and helps save fuel! One of the things we like about
Shadow is their willingness to use modern materials & methods to
produce a better trailer.
Stable Mate stock combos feature stall dividers with
easy-to-use, quick-action latches and drop down feed doors along
the head wall. Air gaps on the kick wall and rear gate
have integrated tracks so you can add optional Plexiglas inserts
if desired. Stable Mate stock combos have nicely equipped
dressing rooms and the dressing room wall is on hinges so you
can swing it out of the way to haul a load of hay or a small
tractor. In the slant models, stall offset is 40" and Shadow
has angled the dividers to produce a stall length that's very
close to what you'd find in a 7' wide trailer (all Stable Mate
models are 6' wide).

And last, but not least, there are the Stable Mate
Stock and Rancher livestock models. The
Stable Mate Stock models resemble the other Stable Mates
in that they have an aluminum frame, smooth white
aluminum skin, Rumber kick panels and rubber floor
mats. (Those are side and interior views of a
Stable Mate Stock model just above this paragraph.)
Stable Mate Rancher models are more like traditional
livestock models – aluminum frame and extruded aluminum
skin, but no kick panels or floor mats. Standard
height on Stock models is 7’; standard height on Rancher
models is 6’6”. With their 7’ height, floor mats
and kick panels, the Stable Mate Stock models are
suitable for either horses or livestock.
Stable Mates are available in 1, 2 & 3 horse slant load
bumper pulls, 2 & 3H slant goosenecks, 2H straight load
bumper pulls & goosenecks and livestock bumper pull
models.
This writeup covers the Stable Mate SC series, but
Shadow also offers the Stable Mate S models with drop
downs on the head wall and windows on the kick wall and
the STK slant stock combos with livestock-type air gaps
on both walls. If you’re looking for an
affordable aluminum straight load, see the Stable Mate
612 and 6145 straight loads elsewhere in our Shadow
section (they’re 7’6’ tall!). Good
looking, versatile, easy to pull and affordable.
