As we mentioned in our What’s New lead-in item, we’re continually
on the lookout for quality products that we can offer at more affordable prices.
Our most recent product searches resulted in the addition of the Carry-On
and Premier brands to our offerings. We’ll talk about Carry-On
first and Premier a little farther down the page.
Carry-On Trailers
If you have a tight budget or just plain don’t want to spend
a lot, Carry-On may be the trailer for you. Carry-On is a well-established
manufacturer, with a reputation for offering very good value by virtue of good quality,
useful features and attractive pricing. And please note that Carry-On is a
member of NATM (the National Association of Trailer Manufacturers). This means
that even though Carry-On trailers are very affordable, they’re also built to industry
standards designed to ensure safety and quality. (And as you may have guessed,
we mention NATM because not all products in the Carry-On price range are NATM compliant.)
Carry-On offers a wide range of open utility & ATV trailers, equipment & dump trailers, car haulers, landscape trailers and more. They also offer a range of enclosed cargo and car trailers. In the past, we didn’t have an inexpensive small trailer for the homeowner who just needed to take a few containers to the recycling center or a lawn tractor to the shop. With the addition of Carry-On, we now have several interesting and affordable small utility trailers.
In the two pictures just above, we’re showing a group of Carry-On 5x8 GW utility trailers with open sides and 5x10 GW models with 16” mesh sides. These are the 2000 lb. GVWR models, but Carry-On offers these sizes with 2990 GVWR as well. The GW models feature a rear gate and wood floor. The wood-floored “5 wides” are shown with the optional 13” wheels. The GW models offer great value & utility, but if you’re looking for something even more affordable, click on the flashing item over on the right to learn more about our Carry-On 5x8 Mesh Floor model.
The pictures above are showing two views of an interesting
& versatile trailer, the Carry-On 6x12 GWRS. The bed size is 6’ wide
by 12’ long, as you probably guessed from the model number, but here’s what the
rest of the designation stands for: Gate, Wood floor, REMOVABLE
SIDES. As soon as we saw this model in the product book, we knew we had
to order some of them. For convenience, we’ll call this model the “RS”
for the rest of this writeup.
With the sides on, use the RS as a normal utility trailer with
the convenience of 12” mesh sides. But suppose you decide to go off-roading
and need to carry a couple of ATVs? The RS sides remove quickly to become
a pair of mesh-covered side ramps. Load one ATV from the rear and the other
from the side. Then simply latch the rear gate, reinstall the side panels
and be on your way (without the added drag of a side ramp standing 4’ or so in the
air). (Please note – some ATVs may be too long to park sideways, so
if you want to carry 2 ATVs on the RS, please get out the tape and check their lengths.)
For added strength at the open sides, the RS has a standard wrap tongue which extends
all the way back to the fenders. GVWR on this model is 2990 lbs.
Carry-On offers a wide range of enclosed trailers. That’s
a Carry-On 5x8CG Cargo model just above this paragraph. At least initially,
we’re mostly stocking Carry-On’s open trailers. But we decided to stock the
5x8 Cargo because, as with Carry-On’s open trailers, it’s a good trailer that hits
a price point we couldn’t achieve with our other brands.
Empty weight on the 5x8CG is approximately 890 lbs. and the
GVWR is 2990 lbs., giving a generous payload capacity of approximately 2100 lbs.
Standard interior height for this model is 61 inches. A rear door as shown
here is standard, but a ramp is available as an option. Standard features
include 15” wheels, aluminum skin, aluminum fenders & front stone guard, Galvalume
roof, interior light and LED tail lights.
We invite you to stop by and check out our selection of Carry-On
trailers.
Premier Trailers
For those of you looking for something a bit more upscale,
we offer Premier trailers. Premier has been building high quality trailers
since 1989. Premier builds a variety of open landscape, equipment, utility
& dump trailers as well as car haulers. As this is written, the economy is
still soft and the small trailers are selling best. Much of this writeup introducing
Premier will concentrate on the smaller trailers, but we do stock some of their
tandem axle models as well. In this writeup, we’re showing just a small sample
of Premier’s model offerings. Premier emphasizes quality rather than low price;
nonetheless, they’re very reasonably priced. We mentioned NATM compliance
in the Carry-On writeup. Premier trailers bear the NATM compliance sticker
as well.
Premier offers two lines of landscape trailers, the LT series
with square tube top rail and the LE series with angle top rail. The picture
above shows several Premier LE models, which are more affordable and have been the
better sellers in recent months. LE models are available in single and tandem
axle models in a variety of lengths.
The tandem axle trailer in the foreground of the left picture
is a Premier LE 816 7K TATB. It has the optional (and popular) extra
wide deck, which has approximately 82” between the fenders rather than the standard
76”. The wider deck has the width to accommodate many of today’s popular wider
mowers. The 16’ deck is great for carrying two zero-turn mowers and accessories.
The 7K in the designation indicates a 7000 lb. GVWR (with about 5000 lb. payload)
and TATB stands for Tandem Axle Tandem Brake, meaning it has brakes on both axles.
Premier offers a TASB model with brakes on one axle, but frankly, the brakes on
the second axle are so relatively inexpensive that we see it as a small price for
added safety; we always stock the TATB model with brakes on both axles. Premier
trailers are noteworthy for their stout construction, tidy welds and bright smooth
finish. The LE models shown here, whether single or tandem axle, have 15”
wheels standard.
In the single axle models, we usually stock the 610 and 612 models, which have deck sizes of 76” x 10’ and 76” x 12’ respectively. The LE610 and 612 with 24” expanded metal (mesh) sides have been particularly good sellers, with customers ranging from homeowners to small lawn care businesses. That’s a Premier LE610 with mesh sides, above, in the picture on the right. While you should always secure the load in your trailer, the mesh sides make it just that much easier to ensure that items leave the trailer only when YOU decide they should. In the single axle models, we typically order the 3K models with 2995 lb. GVWR.
The picture above shows the back end of a Premier LE 816 TATB,
and it’s here to show you some of the things we like about Premier trailers.
On this extra wide model, the split gate is standard. A full width gate is
standard on the 76” wide models, but whether full-width or split, a Premier gate
is solidly built. This trailer is also shown with the optional spring assist,
which features a spring on each end of the gate. The spring assist works very
well and can be an inexpensive back saver. We order it on most of our Premiers.
If you’ve ever lost a tailgate pin, you’ll appreciate Premier’s tethered pin option,
also shown in the rear view.
Here’s a Premier FT18 car hauler. This is a wood deck
model, but they offer steel deck and open deck car haulers as well, in a variety
of lengths. As you can probably tell from the model designation, this
one’s an 18 footer, with a 14’ flat deck and a 4’ beavertail. The trailer
shown here is 82” between the wheel wells, but they offer 76” wide models as well.
This one was ordered with additional stake pockets and diamond plate on the 4’ slide
out ramps. (The wood deck car haulers come with ladder-style ramps; the steel
deck models have diamond-plate ramps as standard.) As with the landscape
models, we order the car haulers with brakes on both axles. The trailer shown
here has a 7000 lb. GVWR, but Premier offers 10,000 GVWR car hauler models as well.
As we mentioned earlier, this section shows just a small sample
of the models available from Premier. We invite you to stop by or call us
to find out more about Premier.
