We have good news. The Barons were Brenderup's
largest models, but they're no longer offered. What's good
about that? The Barons have been replaced by the
Baron L models, which have
5 inch longer
stalls. Baron L models are recommended for horses
to about 18 hands. As before, there are 3 variants - TC, SL
and HB.
We're showing the Baron L TC in these admittedly hazy
photos. We'll take a new batch when we get some clearer
weather. The TC was the most popular Baron model and we
expect that trend to continue with the Baron L TC. The TC
features Brenderup's patented InstaTack Tack
Compartment (hence the TC
designation) that easily converts to a dressing room by
raising the flip-up lid. All Baron L models feature
standard saddle racks, bridle hooks and blanket bar.
As we often say in our ads, you don't need a truck to tow a
Brenderup. A significant feature of the Baron L TC is that
it's a dressing room trailer that has a loaded
tongue weight of approximately 250 lbs. For
comparison, a conventional dressing room trailer
will typically carry about 13-15% of its weight on the hitch,
which usually works out to about 700-900 lbs.
The lighter tongue weight is one of the reasons a Baron L,
and Brenderups in general, can be towed safely by smaller
vehicles. The low-drag shape also contributes to the
easy-towing nature of a Brenderup. We've towed Brenderups
in quite gusty conditions, and they've always behaved
beautifully. It's partly due to the aerodynamic shape and
partly due to the chassis design, which features toe-in and
camber to aid stability. Brenderups have been in production
for over 50 years and have been on sale in the U.S. for over
20 years, so the design is well proven on roads all over the
world.
From the outside, the Baron L SL is nearly identical to the
TC shown here. The key feature of the SL is that the
dressing room wall can be slid back to the chest bar when
the horses are off the trailer. This provides a dressing
room of nearly 6' in length. The SL takes
its name from the SLiding wall feature.
Both the TC and SL feature 2 doors on each side for easy
access to the horse area or dressing room.
The Baron L HB doesn't have a dressing room wall, but it
does have saddle racks, bridle hooks and a blanket bar
cleverly mounted in the front of the trailer. The HB has a
single large door on each side for access to horses and
tack. In case you're wondering what HB
stands for, that's "Horse Box,"
a common term for horse trailer in Europe.
As on the other 2 horse Brenderups, the Baron L series
features a body width of 65 inches and interior height of
approximately 7'4". Where the other Brenderup models
(including the old Barons) have a 7' stall length, the Baron
L series has a stall length of about 7'5". As with the old
Baron models, the Baron L series has 65" of stretch out
space forward of the chest bar, and because the Baron L
carries its full width all the way to the front, there's
even more room than in the other models. As with most
Brenderups, Baron L models feature 3 height adjustments on
butt and chest bars, 5-way opening windows, galvanized kick
panels, rubber torsion axles with shock absorbers (you won't
find those on most trailers!), bright LED tail and marker
lights and much more. A few years ago, Brenderup even added
tiebacks for the doors. Older Brenderups were very well
equipped, but lacked door tiebacks. You asked for them, you
got them!
You may have noticed in the lead photo that the Baron L does
not have the angled ramp of the other Brenderup models. The
Baron L features stiffened floor side rails to deal with the
greater length, and this dictated the change at the rear of
the trailer. It's still a low-drag, aerodynamic design that
pulls with the ease you expect from Brenderup.
Baron L models feature Solid Phenolic Core (SPC) walls
and fiberglass roof. SPC is extremely durable, and because
the walls are about 1/2" thick, there's little heat or sound
transmission. All Brenderup models feature tough,
low-maintenance galvanized steel frames and Inertia brakes.
Inertia brakes feature a clever and simple design that's
been in use for quite some time. Inertia brakes apply
braking force in proportion to the load in the trailer and
there's no need to adjust a brake controller in the
vehicle. In fact, you don't even need a brake controller!
We invite you to visit Traveled Lane to see our
great selection of Brenderups. We even offer test drives.
