We have good news.  The Barons were Brenderup's largest models, but they're no longer offered.  What's good about that?  The Barons have been replaced by the Baron L models, which have 5 inch longer stalls.  Baron L models are recommended for horses to about 18 hands.

As before, there are 3 variants - TC, SL and HB.   The Baron L TC features Brenderup's patented InstaTack dressing room.  During travel, the InstaTack is a Tack Compartment (hence the TC designation).  When you arrive at your destination, simply raise the flip-up lid and the InstaTack becomes a standing height dressing room with saddle racks, bridle hooks and a blanket bar.  The Baron L SL also has the InstaTack, but with a twist, or more accurately, a slide.  When the horses are off the trailer, you can SLide the SL wall back to the chest bar, expanding the dressing room to approximately 6 feet.  The third Baron L model is the HB, as in “Horse Box,” a popular European term for horse trailer.  The Baron L HB doesn’t have a dressing room wall, but like the other Barons, it does have saddle racks, bridle hooks and a blanket bar.

As we often say in our ads, you don't need a truck to tow a Brenderup.  A significant feature of the Baron L SL & TC is that they are dressing room trailers with loaded tongue weights of approximately 250 lbs.  For comparison, a conventional (domestic) dressing room trailer will typically carry about 13-15% of its weight on the hitch, which usually works out to about 700-900 lbs.  The lighter tongue weight is one of the reasons a Baron L, and Brenderups in general, can be towed safely by smaller vehicles.  The low-drag shape also contributes to the easy-towing nature of a Brenderup.   We've towed Brenderups in quite gusty conditions, and they've always behaved beautifully.  We’ve heard similar comments from our customers.  The excellent handling is due in part to the aerodynamic shape and in part to the chassis design, which features toe-in and camber to aid stability.  Brenderups have been in production for over 50 years and have been on sale in the U.S. for over 20 years, so the design is well proven on roads all over the world.

We're showing the Baron L SL in these pictures.  The exterior appearance of the Baron L TC is nearly identical (the only difference is the decal indicating the model name).  Both the TC and SL feature 2 doors on each side for easy access to the horse area or dressing room.  Since the HB doesn’t have a dressing room wall, a single wide door on each side provides access to both horses and tack.

We've included two views of the SL dressing room, showing the wall in both the forward and rear (expanded) positions.  When the SL dressing room wall is forward, the dressing room is the same size as that of the TC.  Release a few latches, give a gentle push, and the SL wall glides back about 3 feet (stopping just in front of the chest bar), giving you a huge dressing room.  It's so large that some folks have camped in their SL dressing rooms rather than setting up tents.

Those of you who have trailered may be wondering, “Residues often accumulate on a trailer floor.  Is the SL wall mechanism likely to get clogged?”  And the answer is, “No.”  There are no tracks in the floor.  The bottom of the sliding wall rides on small caster wheels.  The left and right ends of the wall are supported by roller tracks mounted just above the side doors, well above anything that may have accumulated on the floor.  In typical Brenderup fashion, the SL sliding wall mechanism is simple, reliable and easy to use.

As on the other 2 horse Brenderups, the Baron L series features a body width of 65 inches and interior height of approximately 7'4".  The unitized construction and smooth walls of the Brenderup produce comfortable stall widths while reducing the overall width (and less width means lower drag & better fuel economy).  Where the other Brenderup models (including the old Barons) have a 7' stall length, the Baron L series has a stall length of about 7'5".  As with the old Baron models, the Baron L series has 65 inches of stretch out space forward of the chest bar.  And because the Baron L carries its full width all the way to the front, there's even more room than in the other models.

Every Brenderup comes with a high level of standard equipment.  Baron L models feature 3 height adjustments on butt and chest bars, 5-way opening windows, galvanized kick panels, smooth-riding torsion axles with shock absorbers (you won't find those on most trailers!), bright & reliable LED tail and marker lights and much more.  A few years ago, Brenderup even added tiebacks for the doors.  Older Brenderups were very well equipped, but lacked door tiebacks.  No more bungee cords to hold the doors open!

You may have noticed that the back of the Baron L is vertical, rather than angled as on the other Brenderup models.  The Baron L features stiffened floor side rails to deal with the greater length, and this dictated the change at the rear of the trailer.  It's still a low-drag, aerodynamic design that pulls with the ease you expect from Brenderup.

Baron L models feature Solid Phenolic Core (SPC) walls and a fiberglass roof.  SPC is extremely durable, and because the walls are about 1/2" thick, there's little heat or sound transmission.  All Brenderup models feature tough, low-maintenance galvanized steel frames and Inertia brakes.  Inertia brakes feature a clever and simple design that's been in use for quite some time.  Inertia brakes apply braking force in proportion to the load in the trailer and there's no need to adjust a brake controller in the vehicle.  In fact, you don't even need a brake controller!

We invite you to visit Traveled Lane to see our great selection of Brenderups.  We’ve been selling and servicing Brenderups since 1996 and we even offer test drives!
